Before heading over to the Baby House today, Arman (our driver) took us over to the Grand Mosque here in Astana. Kazakhstan is a predominantly Muslim country, though I sense that a great many people are so by definition more than devotion.

The mosque is quite beautifully adorned on the inside, as so many are, with a strong sense of symmetry, repetition of mosaics, patterns, and textures, and the requisite scriptural iconography.

As we were all alone in the playroom this afternoon, it seemed the perfect time to try out the two different baby carriers we brought with us. I used the Ergo Carrier, while KJ used the Kangaroo Carrier.

Both Carriers seemed to work fine, and surprisingly, Aitugan was relatively calm in their confinement. I suppose that it helped that we waited until towards the end of the visit, a time we expected her to be more resigned to being held.

Way to go Patriots!

Now that's commitment to doing the job right!

Tomorrow is Aitugan's 8 month birthday, and to celebrate, we are going to get her passport photos taken. It will be our first trip outside of the Baby House grounds with her, and quite likely the first time she has been away from the Baby House since she arrived from the maternity hospital here in town at around two weeks old.

We are so curious to watch her reactions to everything. I don't know quite what we hope to learn from them, but I think we both expect her to be far more excited than concerned.

Tomorrow also puts us in our last week of the final countdown, as we expect to take her out of the Baby House for good on the morning of wednesday 12 Dec. How exciting that will be.

This afternoon we were able to have one of her caregivers write out her daily routine in terms of sleep, play, and food. For those of you who may be interested, here it is:

6am - wake up and meal - 200g formula
6-8 - playtime or walk
8-10 - nap
10 - wake up and meal - hot cereal with 10% milk and some juice
10-12 - playtime or walk
12-2 - nap
2pm - wake up and meal - vegetable puree and 100g formula
2-4 - Playtime with us
4-6 Nap
6pm - wake and meal - fruit puree and 170-200g formula
6-8 playtime
8pm - bedtime
10pm -night meal 170-200g formula

Take Care.

Hello from snowy Maine
We got the first big storm of the season, I haven't heard what the snowfall was on the coast yet. We continue to be entertained by the photos and commentary. And Sofia liked the picture with ypur daughter in her sling. Is time doing the weird telescoping thing for you guys? Speeding up and slowing down, especially when you wait for paperwork to be processed?

She does look content in the carrier!

That's a very nice routine they laid out for you. My only question beyond that would be when do they usually bathe her and is it at a set time everyday? A nightly bath right before bed would be a good thing to incorporate into a bedtime routine. Supposedly there is a physiological tiring process and it's to raise your body temperature (via a warm bath) and then afterward as your body cools it makes you sleepy. I think the old remedy of warm milk before bed must be along those same lines. The warm bath before has always worked well for my children.

Best wishes to the 3 of you!

The captions are nearly as priceless as the photos! There has never been a better daily "pick me upper"!

It's fun to watch the days countdown - such anticipation. Tomorrow Aitugan's worlds begins too get much bigger.

Maine is covered with snow and Washington is washing away - much flooding.

Oh my gosh....thats a lot of nap time. I was always REALLY lucky if I got my kids to take single 2 hour nap in one day...even luckier if they did it at the same time.
