What a difference a few days can make...
Meet Tougy's (future) little sister Nurai!
I bet that catches more than a few of you off guard and leaves you trying to imagine how we got from the last post to this one. Truth is, it took a village. We are so eternally grateful to our greater community of family, friends, and most importantly in this case, fellow Kaz adoptive families. The perspective, reassurance, advice and counsel from so many of you kept us moving forward.
We met Nurai last Wednesday and visited her again both Thursday and Friday of last week, though only felt truly confident in our path this afternoon during our visit. She is impacted by both her premature birth and her institutional delays and it took a lot for us to begin to see past the fact that this 10 month old girl was really more of a 5 month old developmentally. That said, we now feel as confident as we can that these delays are surmountable and should present few, if any, lasting effects.
Her name is pronounced Nur-eye, and it means "light of the moon" or Moonlight, so once again we have a 'moon' baby. She was born on 28 December 2008 and we expect to be back in Maine in time for her birthday. Oddly, even though we are just announcing her today, tomorrow marks day 7 of the 14 day bonding period after which we petition the court to officially adopt Nurai. Before we know it, we will be a forever family.
Tougy has really done exceptionally well. She is so excited about being a big sister, and now we can proudly say she will have a little sister. Tougy has been remarkably tender and understanding throughout our visits and gleefully talks about Nurai in her absence. What more could we ask for at this point.
Interestingly, when we asked Tougy if Nurai was Bobek, she said no, though when we asked Tougy if Nurai was her little sister she said yes. So there you have it, Nurai is not Bobek, but she is Tougy's little sister. Probably best for all of us that way.
We'll give you all some time to catch your breath and jump onboard with us. Again, we are so grateful to be loved and supported by so many fantastic people all over the world and look forward to introducing the newest member of our family to her greater community.
So, deep breath in and deep breath out... we now have TWO daughters! Take Care.
-KJ, Steve, Tougy and Nurai
P.S. - Sorry Christopher, looks like you are on your own to carry on the Morrison name, as Nurai will soon have a big sister, 5 girl cousins, 1 boy cousin, 4 aunts, 3 uncles, and 5 grandparents.
P.S.S. - For whatever reason, we have been unable to view our blog with our internet connection here in Shymkent. I hope that everything formats well. Thankfully all of your comments come straight to our email and so we are able to enjoy and appreciate them all even if we can't log on to the blog. If things look out of sorts, or are not loading correctly, please let us know.

big tears in my eyes as I read this and see your gorgeous lil moon daughter and her gorgeous big brown eyes.
I am so relieved and proud and happy for her and YOU that you were able to connect and reach out with people to feel at peace with your DAUGHTER'S health and move forward.
The pictures are perfect, she is darling, and you are the perfect family to help her "catch up". With a smart witty sister like Tougy..I predict GREAT things for lil Nuray and her development.
God bless you and CONGRATULATIONS.
My heart is so full for you!!
:)
I'm sooooooooo glad that you were able to wait and find out more about her.

I am so happy I logged on this morning, because this just made my day! Love always finds a way, and the Morrison family made it happen ;-) Tougy looks like a terrific big sister!

Shannon
Woooooohoooooooo!!!!!!! This is so exciting! Nurai is beautiful and Tougy and KJ look radiant (at least what I can see of KJ behind the mask. It's in the eyes.) Thanks for sharing this fantastic news. What a GREAT way to start the day.
YIPPEEEEE!!! What a wonderful turn of events. I had tears of sadness over the last blog. Today...tears of joy. She is beautiful. Congratulations.
Love & Hugs. Kim @ WBS
Congrats. What gorgeous daughters you have. You are all so blessed to have each other. Thanks for sharing it all with us.
I am in tears, and they are purely tears of joy.
She's gorgeous!
I love her name, it's simply beautiful and the meaning......perfect,
I can not wait to watch Nurai blossom and thrive with your love.
The first thought I had when Tougy said she was not Bobek is that you are not finished with your family yet, smile.
You have two beautiful daughters!! Congratulations!!
It's a beautiful day!
she is beautiful, absolutely beautiful and she looks as though she is already part of your family.
Beyond happy that you were able to get the answers you needed and that your hearts are giving this beautiful gift.
She and Tougy look alike, truly heart warming.
hugs to all of you,
Sandi
Your post brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for you! I have been grieving for you these past few days, and I am so glad you won't be coming home empty-handed after all. Congratulations!
I worried about similar things when we met Roxana, who was also born prematurely, was extremely small, and was behind developmentally. I am so glad that we didn't let those things deter us. Roxana is perfect for our family, just as Nurai is perfect for yours.
I am glad Tougy is adjusting well. I hope that the remainder of your stay is worry-free and that the adoption process goes smoothly.
SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Congratulations! Wow, I can't stop looking at her. She is perfect! Like everyone else, I am teary eyed! It is a wonderful wonderful day when another Kaz beauty is united with their forever family!
Wow, Wow! I couldn't even comment the other day because I was so upset and all of the other Kazamommies were so elequent but I am beyond thrilled that you have found your daughter/sister!
Take it from one mom of a sneaky hider of all things brilliant and developmentally on target during those first weeks, Love can work miracles and bring out one heck of an amazing kid. Much love and hugs to the new family of four!
Best News! I've been thinking about you all the whole weekend! So happy that things are working out. What a beautiful little girl! Tougy is going to be an awesome big sister! Love and hugs to all four of you!
She is a gorgeous little doll face! Simply beautiful!
I am so happy you guys found your daughter, and Day 7 already- very cool!
The pictures are precious, and you all look very happy.
Congratulations Morrison family of 4!
Oh, what amazing, fantastic news!!!! You're right...I do need to catch my breath :) Your newest moon baby is beautiful and her big sister could hardly look more proud. Steve is still out numbered. I'm sure he doesn't mind in the least.
Breathing a sigh of relief and wishing you continued peace and joy.
Allison
What wonderful news to wake up to on a Monday morning. Your family has been on my mind through the weekend as I could only imagine all of what you may be going through. Albeit a bit presumptuous, I took the fact that you were not traveling back so quickly as potentially good news. And now I know.
So, congratulations Morrison family! Nicholas and I are thrilled that you have found your daughter and such a beauty she is. I know I speak for all of us when I say I can't wait to see Nurai blossom with each and all of the Morrisons' love and devotion.
And Tougy looks like she will be an amazing big sister! How awesome is that!
All the best as you continue on your journey to adopt Nurai.
Pam and Nicholas
I think I scared Addie when I read your post this morning...I screamed! I am so thrilled for you all!!!
Nurai is just beautiful and Tougy looks so happy. The sparkle in your eyes, Steve and Kjersten, is so lovely to see as well!
I can't wait to hear more...you have definitely made my day, more like my week and month really!
Love from Boston,
Kerrie & family
My heart is so happy for you 4! So happy! You're daughters are beautiful!
Yaaay!!!!
Congratulations to the Morrison family of four. We are so happy for you.
In this part of the World we are "Dancing in the Moonlight...". As we bet you all are in Shymkent.
(Thin Lizzy if you cannot remember the song from that far back).
Kei-lief en kei-mooi, like we would say over here in Belgium ...
Which means : very very sweet and very very beautifull !
Enjoy all these moments and be confident. Everything will turn out right, for you and your little girls.
Heidje and Stefan and Miki (Aktobe 2002) and Anna-Lina (Astana 2007)
so so happy for you!!!!! I know you don't even know us, but we are fellow parents of a KZ American daughter, right here in Maine, and have followed your story. And soon you will officially have two! Congratulations! Someday we will meet in the Gardens, I am sure of it! Alicia/Bruce Riddell
She is absolutely beautiful!!!! And Tougy looks so happy too:O)
Congratulations to all of you, I am so happy for you. I love her name!! A pretty name for a pretty girl:O) Congratulations Morrison family!!!!
WOW! Unexpected and delightful. Two beautiful MOON babies to love. How much they look alike. Loved Tougy's reply - Not Bobeck. She knows a feminine beauty when she sees one and Bobeck always did sound masculine. Tougy's soo.ooo smart and loving. Your photos were great, Steve. Keep 'em coming as we can see and read your blog without a hitch.
So happy to hear you will be home and a family of 4.
Let the rumpus begin!
Love to all - Steve, KJ, Tougy and Nurai
Congrats!!
while she may not be your Bobek .. she is definitely your Nurai!!
Congrats! She is beautiful!!
and who says that a girl can't carry down the family name ;-)
I am so happy for you! I have goosebumps all over. I am so happy that I can share in this experience. You are a wonderful family and you all are so lucky!!

JOY JOY JOY! SHE IS BEAUTIFUL! AND HER NAME IS TOO! TWO MOON GIRLS! WE LOVE YOU ALL!
Congratulations! I am so happy for you guys! She is so beautiful! What a great way to start my monday knowing that you met your new daughter! Cole (our Shymkent baby) was 26 months old and weighed 19 lbs. and couldn't walk. Now at 6 he skis, takes karate, hip hop and tap and is in the top group in his kindergarten class, so yes she will catch up and you will be surprised by how quickly!!! Toni
Yeah!!!!! A friend of mine just got back from Shymkent with her daughter who was also a premature. Her daughter has come so far since they met- she's even sitting up on her own now.
She's beautiful!
Hugs!
Wow. What a wonderful surprise for a Monday morning. We are so so happy for you. What a beautiful family of four. Of course Tougy is doing great -- she's amazing, just as Nurai will be, too, with your love and nurturing. Your blog is coming through great, by the way -- the pics, prose, and formatting are as stunning as ever. Congratulations!
God bless you!! She's absolutely gorgeous! I'm so happy for you that all worked out -- twisted paths and all, the light of the moon guided you well to her! I now have hope, as well, to see you in Kazakhstan ;-)
Best wishes to you!!!
Congratulations Tougy! Being a big sister will be a wonderful thing!!!
Steph
Wow, wow, wow is just about all I can say. I read your post and cried happy happy tears for all of you!
What beautiful new baby girl you have and two daughters, you could not ask for more... Tougy looks so excited to have a new adorable baby sister to love. They are going to be the best of friends. I am so happy for all of you.
When I met Henry at almost 9 months he did not babble at all and I was very concerned but everything else was right on track. As it turned out Henry is still very speech delayed but he is getting great ST and is doing great and I am so grateful he is my son.
Your adorable Nuria will bloom like a flower with all your love and if she needs some extra help catching up that is okay too.
Much love and hugs to all of you.
Sending warm thoughts and wishes to you all - congratulations! We are so very happy for your family!
Binaca Macdonald (Emma's 'Mom')
Holy smokes, I can hardly catch my breath you guys!
I AM SO OVERJOYED FOR YOU ALL! Crying my eyes out with happy tears. She is simply stunning.
Thank you so much for giving her a chance and opening your hearts to the possibilities. I know you will give her everything she needs to grow and blossom to her fullest!
I love her name. I love her face. I love that she is your daughter and Tougy's sister. I love that she is the newest member of the greater American Kaz community!
A huge congratulations and many good wishes for your continued journey to bring her back to Maine, where the 4 of you will live happily ever after!
Lots of Love,
Regina, Frank and Milo
Morrison family of 4!! Congratulations! Nurai is beautiful! Tougy is going to be a great big sister - and she looks so grown up next to Nurai. Enjoy the rest of your time there and again Congratulations!! We're very happy for you! Thanks for sharing your story.
Isn't she lovely? The pics of all of you are heartwarming. Such a huge sigh of relief from this side of the world as we were all heart broken for you last week. Your eyes have such joy in them,Congratulations! We look forward to meeting her in the coming months.
Our thoughts have been with you and now such blessings have been granted!
darla
Steve and KJ what wonderful news. Our children always find us! Our daughter from UST at 9 months was 12 pounds could not sit, crawl or hold anyhting heavier then a rattle. But at the end of 2 weeks of bonding she was a different baby!
Now at 5 she is completely on track and it's hard to remember that baby we met as I look at my Kindergatender.
Can't wait to follow the journey. I am so happy for you all. Your girls all gorgous.
Kathy
I burst into tears immediately... must be getting old. There are no words that have not been expressed more betterer than I ever could. Funny how life turns out just how it is supposed to.
I am guessing your pictures are not formatting the way you would like them to. The right side is being cut off of pictures that are landscape...
thought you would want to know.
So much love and joy to you all!
XXOO!!
Hi Morrison Family.
This is George's mom, we met you @ Kazapalooza and wanted to congratulate you on your new addition to your family.
Good luck with everything!
Kelly, Steve and George Sarandis
What wonderful news...and what a sweetie you have found in Kazakhstan!! Reminds me so much of my daughter when I met her at 8-1/2 mos. of age...she was still so delayed when we got home at 10 mos, but by 15 mos....watch out!! : ) Congratulations to the 4 of you!
Quaintance (and Madina)
Wow! What a wonderful story, and a wild ride. I cannot begin to imagine all that you have been through, but it appears that it was all part of the journey to get Nurai! She is beautiful and will thrive with all of you loving her :)
All the best!!!
She is dareling. Congrats, I am so so happy.
Sorrow turned to joy?! She is beautiful! So glad to hear the news. Best wishes on the journey from here.
Congratulations to you all! We were thrilled to check your blog this morning. She is simply beautiful. Here's best wishes for the remainder of your adoption process to go smoothly!
Kristi and Mieke (Semey 2008) in Washington DC
Wonderful news! So happy that everything has worked out for you. Nurai is beautiful and Tougy looks so happy - she is BEAMING! We were pretty shocked when we met Miras (who was also premature) at 10 mos and he was developmentally closer to 6 mos. He couldn't sit up on his own nor roll over nor crawl... heck, kids here are walking by then. Fortunately it didn't take long - a little love and nutrition goes a long long way. All the best as you get to know your future daughter.
P.S. Bobek does sound like a boys name... perhaps there's a third in your future too????
Congratulations ..she's gorgeous!!
Congrats! I am so happy for all of you! Best of luck & safe travels home.
This simply and completely takes my breath away. I am so happy you were able to reach a comfort zone, a knowing that Nurai will overcome the obstacles that her birth threw at her. I am betting she will! It is no coincidence that Tougy and Nurai already look like sisters - the eyes, the eyes! the eyes have it! - and that the pictures with you and KJ with them look like FAMILY. We are thrilled beyond words. I made Joel stop his work and come look and he too says "wow". She is beautiful. And what a beautiful name. You are blessed.
Oh what joy! Happy Monday to you guys! 'Cannot think of anything better to start my desktop work today.
Nurai is a doll and big sister Tougs looks so "sisterly" next to her.
Here's to a wonderful and blissful journey ahead for the Morrisons: Party of Four!
That is one beautiful baby girl you have there! Congratulations to you guys, and I hope everything goes smoothly from here.
Best wishes,
Stewart
I think my eyes literally bugged out of my head when I saw your post this morning on facebook - I had to go to your blog to get all the info. She is wonderful!! Don't worry at all about the developmental delays - my friend's son was almost 3 months premature and he caught up very quickly. :) Tougy will definitely help!
It makes me so pleased to see the happy eyes behind those masks! What a turnaround! An emotional rollercoaster for sure. We will welcome Nurai to the family with open arms. She looks so much like Tougy!!! ha!
Congratulations family!
Love to you all!
Nurai is beautiful!! I am so happy for you!! Congratulations on the new daughter!! Hoorah!! You-all look wonderful together!! Jump for JOY!! Be sure to take time to be tourists to connect Tougy and Nurai to their Kaz roots! What beautiful moon girls!! May God Bless you always!! Peace to you!!
Another Kaz mom, Joan : )
Congratulations! What a sweet little blessing Nurai is! A little sister for Tougy! I'm already picturing the two of them growing up together and sharing that amazing bond that only sisters can share!
I am so happy for all of you! Nurai is one lucky little girl to have found such an amazing family! Best wishes and lots of love to all of you as you continue your journey together. I can't wait to see you all soon, and I know Bokar and Daodua can't wait to meet the new addition, too!!

Just had to come back and take another peek at your Kaz beauties. I love how Nurai is just enthralled with the camera. She doesn't take her eyes off of it the whole time. And it's not like she's afraid of it. She seems to be quite curious. She might challenge you for rights to it fairly soon!
Omgosh! That really did take my breath away and brought tears of JOY for you guys. She's beautiful. I'm SO happy for your family !!! :)
Hope works...you three found your way and so did sweet Nurai! Tears of joy :)
I just found your blog recently, and I haven't followed for long, but I am so relieved for you! Congratulations on things working out so beautifully. I'm so happy for you. (My husband and I are in process, waiting for a regional referral.)
I was on the road today and read bits of chatter between the Kaz Mamas about how beautiful Nuray is. I am shocked I didn't get pulled over for speeding trying to get back to my computer. My God she does not disappoint! She is gorgeous and somehow looks like she belongs in your arms KJ.
And Steve, you were absolutely correct in your earlier post, lightening did strike twice.
Congrats!
Absolutely thrilled with the turn of events! All is well that ends well. The girls look so much alike - they belong together! I can tell you from experience that having a sister is the BESTEST thing! So glad your week wasn't wasted and counts toward your bonding time. I think this is a perfect way to introduce Tougy - so much easier than coming home with 24/7 baby care from the gitgo. This arrangement provides time to get acquainted as well as time alone with Tougy. It will be "old hat" by the time you actually come home. I like Nurai's birthdate - our anniversary! Two beautiful daughters - CONGRATULATIONS!!
Aunt Sandy
Will hello there and congratulations. I had tears streaming down my face (happy) while I read the blog and looked at the lovely pictures of your new little girl and expanded family. She is lovely and I am sure that with all of you to love, support, encourage and educate Nurai, she will make up for lost time.
Overjoyed for you all and praying that the legalities will be smooth. Thank you for the happy update.
Much love to you all, Butch, Lucy, Megan and Rushard
I was so happy to open your blog and see such wonderful news! Congratulations new family of 4 on such a beautiful new daughter!
She is so beautiful! She looks very alert - beautiful eyes! Congratulations to you all!
Patty (and Taylor/Nursulu from Aitugan's baby room)
I am speechless! What a wonderful family you make! Can't wait for another update. Enjoy every moment!
So happy for you. Tougy is going to make a great big sister.
I am so so SO happy for you! She is gorgeous of course! Tougy looks so happy to have a little sister.
They catch up so quickly. Serik did wonderfully once we started visiting and bring him food, playing with him, etc. You will be amazed at how different she will be even by the time you get home with her. :)
Congratulations! This was the best news of my day :-) The pictures are perfect!SISTERS....they are going to have so much fun together! What a lucky man to be surrounded by 3 beautiful women!
Meant to be! The eyes have it! Sorry to be corny but I just had to. She is beautiful and I'm sure with all the love of your family prematurity and delays will be a thing of the past. Congratulations to you all! I'm so excited for you and I can't wait to read more.
Congratulations to you! She is beautiful!!!
Woo hoo! Congrats!
I knew that!!!!! My best wishes to your family and congratulations on your newest addition. Your younger daughter is simply perfect...
her name also can be spelled as "Noorai" (like queen Noor of Jordan)
best regards,
Layla.
Mormor has sent you several emails that we hope are getting through. We just want to let you know how much we love you, have been concerned for all the stress you have been under and are excited about our new granddaughter and the many opportunities we will have to share and grow together with each and all of you.
Morfar
Congratulations you guys! We couldn't be more happier for your family. Nurai is a beautiful little girl and certainly a treasure for your family.
Stewart, Ashlee and Owen
I am blown away by the wonder of adoption yet again!! She is absolutely beautiful!!! I am so happy for all of you! She will thrive once she is home. Don't worry about trying to keep up with her chronological age. She will get there on her own beautiful time frame!!
I am so very happy for you. I am not sure if you remeber Emerson from Kazapalooza. He was a premi born at 1lb 7 oz. He was only 8 lbs when we met him at 6months 20 days. Now at 3 years old we have to tell his Dr. he was a premi becuase they cannot tell. It is amazing what they can over come.
Karon, John and Emerson

I too had to come back and look at your beautiful family once again. I see such a spark in Nuray's eyes - bet she gives the brilliant Miss T a run for it. I too predict great things. And just to lock it in, I saw an amazing shooting star in Utah tonight and wished upon it for you and your beautiful daughters.
Oh happy day!!!! We are thrilled for you. Nurai is stunning - so, so beautiful. We were in a serious funk after reading your post the other day, but we had this feeling things were going to work out while you were there. Whewwwww, what a relief! And so glad you're already on day 7 of the visitation period. Nurai will be officially your daughter before you know it and you'll be headed home! Don't let the developmental delays get you down. She will catch up quickly. Andrew was five weeks premature and certainly delayed when we met him, but look at him now. You'd never know it. Big hugs to you all!
Brad, Corrine and Andrew
Wow how awesome! She is simply beautiful and I can't get over the 2 "moon babies" ! Congrats a million times over!! Jaimie, Gena and Berik
Wow how awesome! She is simply beautiful and I can't get over the 2 "moon babies" ! Congrats a million times over!! Jaimie, Gena and Berik
I am so happy for you! Congratulations!
KJ, she is beautiful!!! Stunningly beautiful. She is meant to be your daughter. I can feel that sitting here in Austin at 2:30 in the morning! I have chills. Gosh, I'm so happy fo for you, Steve and Tougy.
This method of communication is awesome. I find it so supportive and comforting to read all the blog comments and hear the support from other parents of premature babies as they communicate with confidence that love and nurture will bring Nurai to fullness VERY quickly. Remember your premi brother, KJ, who is now 6'4"and a totally special guy... they can start out little but you just never know where they end up (smile!) Your family is a blessing to Nurai and as so many others have said we will watch with amazement as the photos of her life show us how she develops in fullness and matures. With Tougy at her side she will be trying all kinds of things and engaging in the world of pretend in no time. They'll be doing dancing shows and made-up plays saying to the two of you, "watch" ... "watch." With such joyful hearts we celebrate your days of bonding, court hearings, final processes and HOME!!! we love you always and forever, mormor & morfar
Congratulations...2 beautiful daughters! I'm glad you feel confident, we all know that with love and care you will be able to help your daughter catch up.
PHEW! Nurai is just beautiful and I am certain that she will be just fine in your loving hands. I so admire your candor and consideration of your situation and what is right for your family. I am excited that Tougy has identified her little sister. They are both just BEAUTIFUL! I will continue readin glater. Anely ais finally down for a nap and the mama needs one too!
