What a difference a few days can make...
Meet Tougy's (future) little sister Nurai!

I bet that catches more than a few of you off guard and leaves you trying to imagine how we got from the last post to this one.  Truth is, it took a village.  We are so eternally grateful to our greater community of family, friends, and most importantly in this case, fellow Kaz adoptive families.  The perspective, reassurance, advice and counsel from so many of you kept us moving forward.

We met Nurai last Wednesday and visited her again both Thursday and Friday of last week, though only felt truly confident in our path this afternoon during our visit.  She is impacted by both her premature birth and her institutional delays and it took a lot for us to begin to see past the fact that this 10 month old girl was really more of a 5 month old developmentally.  That said, we now feel as confident as we can that these delays are surmountable and should present few, if any, lasting effects.

Her name is pronounced Nur-eye, and it means "light of the moon" or Moonlight, so once again we have a 'moon' baby.  She was born on 28 December 2008 and we expect to be back in Maine in time for her birthday.  Oddly, even though we are just announcing her today, tomorrow marks day 7 of the 14 day bonding period after which we petition the court to officially adopt Nurai.  Before we know it, we will be a forever family.

Tougy has really done exceptionally well.  She is so excited about being a big sister, and now we can proudly say she will have a little sister.  Tougy has been remarkably tender and understanding throughout our visits and gleefully talks about Nurai in her absence.  What more could we ask for at this point.

Interestingly, when we asked Tougy if Nurai was Bobek, she said no, though when we asked Tougy if Nurai was her little sister she said yes.  So there you have it, Nurai is not Bobek, but she is Tougy's little sister.  Probably best for all of us that way.

We'll give you all some time to catch your breath and jump onboard with us.  Again, we are so grateful to be loved and supported by so many fantastic people all over the world and look forward to introducing the newest member of our family to her greater community.

So, deep breath in and deep breath out... we now have TWO daughters!  Take Care.

-KJ, Steve, Tougy and Nurai

P.S. - Sorry Christopher, looks like you are on your own to carry on the Morrison name, as Nurai will soon have a big sister, 5 girl cousins, 1 boy cousin, 4 aunts, 3 uncles, and 5 grandparents.

P.S.S. - For whatever reason, we have been unable to view our blog with our internet connection here in Shymkent.  I hope that everything formats well.  Thankfully all of your comments come straight to our email and so we are able to enjoy and appreciate them all even if we can't log on to the blog.  If things look out of sorts, or are not loading correctly, please let us know.

big tears in my eyes as I read this and see your gorgeous lil moon daughter and her gorgeous big brown eyes.
I am so relieved and proud and happy for her and YOU that you were able to connect and reach out with people to feel at peace with your DAUGHTER'S health and move forward.

The pictures are perfect, she is darling, and you are the perfect family to help her "catch up". With a smart witty sister like Tougy..I predict GREAT things for lil Nuray and her development.

God bless you and CONGRATULATIONS.

She's gorgeous!

I love her name, it's simply beautiful and the meaning......perfect,

I can not wait to watch Nurai blossom and thrive with your love.

The first thought I had when Tougy said she was not Bobek is that you are not finished with your family yet, smile.

You have two beautiful daughters!! Congratulations!!

It's a beautiful day!

Your post brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for you! I have been grieving for you these past few days, and I am so glad you won't be coming home empty-handed after all. Congratulations!

I worried about similar things when we met Roxana, who was also born prematurely, was extremely small, and was behind developmentally. I am so glad that we didn't let those things deter us. Roxana is perfect for our family, just as Nurai is perfect for yours.

I am glad Tougy is adjusting well. I hope that the remainder of your stay is worry-free and that the adoption process goes smoothly.

What wonderful news to wake up to on a Monday morning. Your family has been on my mind through the weekend as I could only imagine all of what you may be going through. Albeit a bit presumptuous, I took the fact that you were not traveling back so quickly as potentially good news. And now I know.

So, congratulations Morrison family! Nicholas and I are thrilled that you have found your daughter and such a beauty she is. I know I speak for all of us when I say I can't wait to see Nurai blossom with each and all of the Morrisons' love and devotion.

And Tougy looks like she will be an amazing big sister! How awesome is that!

All the best as you continue on your journey to adopt Nurai.

WOW! Unexpected and delightful. Two beautiful MOON babies to love. How much they look alike. Loved Tougy's reply - Not Bobeck. Keep 'em coming as we can see and read your blog without a hitch.
So happy to hear you will be home and a family of 4.

Wow, wow, wow is just about all I can say. I read your post and cried happy happy tears for all of you!

What beautiful new baby girl you have and two daughters, you could not ask for more... Tougy looks so excited to have a new adorable baby sister to love. They are going to be the best of friends. I am so happy for all of you.

When I met Henry at almost 9 months he did not babble at all and I was very concerned but everything else was right on track. As it turned out Henry is still very speech delayed but he is getting great ST and is doing great and I am so grateful he is my son.

Your adorable Nuria will bloom like a flower with all your love and if she needs some extra help catching up that is okay too.

Much love and hugs to all of you.

Steve and KJ what wonderful news. Our children always find us! Our daughter from UST at 9 months was 12 pounds could not sit, crawl or hold anyhting heavier then a rattle. But at the end of 2 weeks of bonding she was a different baby!

Now at 5 she is completely on track and it's hard to remember that baby we met as I look at my Kindergatender.

Can't wait to follow the journey. I am so happy for you all. Your girls all gorgous.

Wonderful news! So happy that everything has worked out for you. Nurai is beautiful and Tougy looks so happy - she is BEAMING! We were pretty shocked when we met Miras (who was also premature) at 10 mos and he was developmentally closer to 6 mos. He couldn't sit up on his own nor roll over nor crawl... heck, kids here are walking by then. Fortunately it didn't take long - a little love and nutrition goes a long long way. All the best as you get to know your future daughter.

P.S. Bobek does sound like a boys name... perhaps there's a third in your future too????

This simply and completely takes my breath away. I am so happy you were able to reach a comfort zone, a knowing that Nurai will overcome the obstacles that her birth threw at her. I am betting she will! It is no coincidence that Tougy and Nurai already look like sisters - the eyes, the eyes! the eyes have it! - and that the pictures with you and KJ with them look like FAMILY. We are thrilled beyond words. I made Joel stop his work and come look and he too says "wow". She is beautiful. And what a beautiful name. You are blessed.

I was on the road today and read bits of chatter between the Kaz Mamas about how beautiful Nuray is. I am shocked I didn't get pulled over for speeding trying to get back to my computer. My God she does not disappoint! She is gorgeous and somehow looks like she belongs in your arms KJ.

And Steve, you were absolutely correct in your earlier post, lightening did strike twice.

Congrats!

Absolutely thrilled with the turn of events! All is well that ends well. The girls look so much alike - they belong together! I can tell you from experience that having a sister is the BESTEST thing! So glad your week wasn't wasted and counts toward your bonding time. I think this is a perfect way to introduce Tougy - so much easier than coming home with 24/7 baby care from the gitgo. This arrangement provides time to get acquainted as well as time alone with Tougy. It will be "old hat" by the time you actually come home. I like Nurai's birthdate - our anniversary! Two beautiful daughters - CONGRATULATIONS!!

This method of communication is awesome. I find it so supportive and comforting to read all the blog comments and hear the support from other parents of premature babies as they communicate with confidence that love and nurture will bring Nurai to fullness VERY quickly. Remember your premi brother, KJ, who is now 6'4"and a totally special guy... they can start out little but you just never know where they end up (smile!) Your family is a blessing to Nurai and as so many others have said we will watch with amazement as the photos of her life show us how she develops in fullness and matures. With Tougy at her side she will be trying all kinds of things and engaging in the world of pretend in no time. They'll be doing dancing shows and made-up plays saying to the two of you, "watch" ... "watch." With such joyful hearts we celebrate your days of bonding, court hearings, final processes and HOME!!! we love you always and forever, mormor & morfar
