Lives were changed today…

To be sure, lots of effort, emotion, desire, and provenance preceded this moment, but tonight it is all in the past, for tonight Nurai shares a bed with her mother and father.

Imagining all the things that Nurai is experiencing for the first time, it truly breaks your heart.

The reunion at the Baby House was without fanfare save for one older caregiver, Rosa, who was very happy for Nurai and asked about Tougy.

Nurai was brought up the steps in a blanket and, without first letting us see her, was moved into a separate room to be weighed and measured.  A few minutes later the caregiver came out to ask us for clothes and then retreated back into the room to dress Nurai.

When the door opened again, Nurai was brought out and handed to us, and that was basically it.  We asked a few questions of one of her doctors and took our leave down the stairs and out the door to the car.

In those few brief moments, everything about her world and ours was irrevocably changed, and yet for those around us, it was just another moment in time.  I don’t know how I imagine it should have felt different, but I was alternately saddened and elated.

So begins Nurai’s second year of life.

We love you Nurai and are so overjoyed to be your family.

8am flight from Almaty to Shymkent.

Following the mountains and looking into Kyrgyzstan.

Our apartment building from November.  We went in the blue door on the right and were on the second floor on the back side of the building.

Caregivers bringing Nurai up the stairs to meet us.

The final presentation.  Nurai was not at all sure what was going on.  The green around her nose is a crazy tincture that they apply for most everything.  In this case it was a sore nose from a cold/runny nose.

Getting reaquainted.

Caregiver Rosa.

In the getaway car and headed back to the hotel.

Settling in and looking to mom for reassurance.  About to leave Shymkent on her first airplane.

Farewell glance upon Shymkent as we climb.

Sound asleep on our hour long flight from Shymkent to Almaty.

The many face of Nurai

Looking strong Nurai.  Lots of growing lies ahead.

Take Care.

OH it's SO emotional,isn't it?
Even me, sitting here in Florida, have tears streaming down my face, as I imagine what you're feeling, and DISTINCTLY remembering what I felt, taking Leeza out of that baby house forever.

I am so happy for your family..so happy for that sweet, sweet, lil girl who is sooooo ready to be loved, and has no idea who her amazing family is and what she has in store for her. It makes my heart sing just to think of all the changes you're all about to witness. :)

congratulations Morrison family! Your pictures, as usual, are a true work of art. :)

SOOOOO happy for you. :)

The emo one..

I am so happy for you guys! And you are right- all of that stuff is in the past, though I have to admit, I expected something a little more ceremonious than what you described. As always, Nurai looks beautiful. Did her cheeks fill out a little? She looks like she filled out a little to me.

Thrilled that you are in the final stages of being able to just live your life as a family of four.
Big smiles and lots of love from AZ----

I remember thinking there should have been a little more ceremony when we picked up Nina...a small parade, fireworks, declaration of a minor holiday but alas we signed a few forms and were on our way. Still my heart was full and I felt like I had crossed the finish line of year long marathon.

Enjoy your moment and all the many moments you have ahead of you with your beautiful new daughter.

Wow, wow, wow, as I sit here in CT crying, thinking about how emotional all of this is... Nurai's life will NEVER be the same and that in itself is simply pure joy in it self. I am so happy for all of you, you are a beautiful family and everyone is so lucky to have each other.

May your days ahead but pure bliss and happiness.

Much love and tight hugs,

Carolyn and Henry

Tears streaming down my face. I am so glad you added the smiling photos at the end, as the less smiley ones were captivating but heart wrenching. My GOD. Thank GOD that child is coming home with you. THANK GOD. I cannot believe it. I cannot. Some part of me is in shock even now. Thank GOD. It is ALMOST over, this part. Almost. And that lack of ceremony for one of the biggest moments of your lives? Still I think of that same thing when we brought home Jude. There we were and then we drove home with him to our rental. It was SO ODD. But huge. And for Nurai? It feels like it should have been a HUGE party for her and you two. Instead, a quiet exchange. Ah. Life. SO thankful you are all together and loving you all so much it hurts! Get yourselves home safely soon!

I join the tear parade here in Brooklyn, New York! Nurai's face is expressive and i love the culmination of images ending in her delighted ticklish smile. I thought the photos from the airplane were quite moving. So much is said in those moments of leaving a "home" only to enter the rest of your life. Blessings to you, the magnificent Morrison family!!

So happy for you all.

Nicholas wanted to know who the baby girl was when he saw me looking at your beautiful photos tonight. I explained to him that the baby was Nurai and she was born in Kazakhstan and just adopted and then I showed him each of you and told him you were her Mommy and Daddy. "Hey Mommy, she's adopted from Kazakhstan, just like me."

Yes, son, just like you.

Tears in Richmond too.

Oh HAPPY DAY!!!!! I love the progression of the pictures, from reticent and unsure, to smiling and glowing. She will blossom in your love, of that I have zero doubt. What a joy to be able to see who Nurai develops into. I have a feeling she is a spectacular person who just needs a place to shine.

I have just now been able to make it to your blog today and it's been killing me all day to get here.

Leaving the baby house with Sadie was one of the most emotional days of my entire life. As you said, all of our lives were changing, but she had no idea just how much and what it all meant. And while I have always felt we were the blessed ones in adoption, leaving the baby house, and only at that moment in time, was she the lucky one as we said goodbye to all the children left behind.

That day Nurai was the lucky one, the blessed one.

Loved all of the pictures.

She's with you, forever and hearts all around the world are smiling with you......isn't cyber world an amazing thing.

Isn’t it something how the events that are life changing to us are just a run a mill day to others? We thought about that a lot during Anton’s adoption. The first meeting…. For us once (or twice, for some three)in a life time. For the baby house staff once or twice a day, everyday. Same goes for bonding, court and the oh so emotionally sweet gotcha day.
