My little girl is all grown up. She turned 7 months today!! Only another 185 months until she's driving.
It is amazing how we can watch her change almost daily. We already have ourselves convinced that she is doing things differently than she was just last week when we met her. For instance, her body control and ability to stay in a sit-up position and to move and crawl all seems to have improved in the last 5 days.
I am sure that to some extent we are enhancing the reality to fit our hopes, and perhaps forgetting that she was already doing quite well with these when we met her, though I suspect that 'after further review of the tape, the ruling on the field stands.' - Aitugan is benefitting from having a mommy and daddy focussing their attention on her everyday. And we love it!
Yes, her eyes are really that big, and yes, she is very expressive. It is interesting to watch her in comparison to the other to children that share the playroom with us. She does not in any way, shape, or form, want to lie and snuggle with us. She wants to move, explore, put everything in her mouth, and vocalize her feelings.
She does not sit still the whole two hours we are with her, and I honestly don't know how she manages in her crib as long as I am sure she must be in there. She is very dramatic. Big laughs and giggles to big pouts and fits. Yes we have a lively one!!
We also think that she may be showing signs of handedness as we have noticed that she routinely picks things up and shakes things with the same hand as her daddy - you betcha, I think she's a lefty.
She is still getting over her cold and congestion that she had when we first met her. It will be interesting to see if some of the fussiness dissipates when that has cleared up. You can definitely feel it in her chest when she breathes heavily. There is a lot in there wheezing around.
As you have seen in some of the video, she has the sweetest giggle. She is fascinated by the mirror and loves to watch herself move in it. She also loves to locate KJ and I in the mirror and then turn to the real us beside her with a full sense of wonder and glee.
Yes this whole parenting thing is fascinating, and the long wait that came before is already receding into the background.
Take Care.

It's almost like she would rather show you all about her life so far because she knows that you will all be leaving it to a new life in the USA. She can cuddle and roll around with you later. :)
She is so alert and I can tell she is MUCH FUN!
Enjoy EVERY minute -- but I know I don't have to tell you that.

I'm so glad I checked in on you today to see how things are going... it looks like you are all doing very well!

My daughter Isabel was just like your daughter when I was visiting. She was very inquisitive and moved all the time. I have pictures of her kissing herself in the mirror and laying on the carpet trying to pick up the black lines. I would just laugh and laugh because the black lines were IN the carpet!! She also had a very expressive face and STILL DOES!
I enjoy reading your blog and re-live my time in Astana as I view your photos and video. You are so blessed with that little one!! She is georgous!!!!
It is amazing how fast they respond to one on one attention and love. I am still amazed by my little guy every day since we have been back home. It just keeps getting better if you can believe that!
GORGEOUS!!! How wonderful yo'll bea ble to provide her with all sorts of experiences she can fully take in :-)
Dear Kjersten & Steve,
I'm just catching up on your whole adventure (thank you KJ for your newsy card) and I'm sending the biggest congratulations! Your little girl is beautiful and what a ham for the camera! Indigo is still wondering how she went from only child six years ago to sharing "her" room with two little hoodlums. Your boys might feel the same. Indie misses Dr. M very much and our visit to Fryeburg Vet last week just wasn't the same. Please stop by Moose Pond with your cutie pie sometime next summer and she can run around with Stefanie & Jacqueline. Girl power! I'm sure they will all be on their first NOLS Aventure Course together.
Take Care, Laura Ordway & Stefan Jackson
Your daughter is beautiful! She has such beautiful brown eyes too. My daughter is from Astana too, we came back July 22 and it was such a wonderful trip. Enjoy the whole experience with your daughter, it is a time in my life that I treasure so much! I'm so excited for all three of you!
Hi, I found you blog from Muriel,
We brought our daughter home from Karaganda in June. When we met her she was very much like your daughter, much busier than all the babies in her group. She was so incredibly alert and when you would enter the room, if the babies were in the "community crib" the other babies were laying around cooing and there was my girl looking, and hanging out of the crib trying to see everything she could. She's still incredibly incredibly busy, and still one of the happiest, smiley children I've been around (I have two older boys).
Your baby is beautiful and appears to be doing just wonderful!!
I felt connected to you immediately when I read back through your blog. We went to Russia in 06 and traveled home without a child. It was heartwrenching. Like you we regrouped, and our daughter is beyond our expectations!!
Wonderful pictures! I love the black and white. She just keeps getting cuter and cuter, and what a great dispcription of her! She's going to keep you busy. :)
ahem, dEscription, lol!
